The Early Days: T-Shirts and Keychains from the 2000s
When Call of Duty first launched in 2003, the merchandise landscape was simple. Official gear consisted mostly of basic cotton tee shirts featuring the original Call of Duty logo in bold white font on black backgrounds, alongside metal keychains and cheap plastic lanyards. These items were sold primarily through the Activision online store and at major gaming conventions like E3 and QuakeCon.
As the series grew with Call of Duty 2 and 3, the merch lineup expanded to include branded mouse pads, hats, and hoodies. The designs were minimal, often just the game title or a simple soldier silhouette. The biggest seller was the classic "Call of Duty" dog tag set - a nod to the military theme. By the end of the 2000s, with Modern Warfare (2007) and World at War (2008), the merchandise started to incorporate more detailed graphics, including character art like Captain Price and the iconic sniper scene from the campaign.
